Surface 4 Pro screen bulging at lower left edge and separated from the frame

I have a Surface 4 Pro that I purchased in March 2016. Over the last few days, I was seeing a considerable color bleed on lower left edge of the screen. Then I stared noticing that that type cover does not seem to close flat against the screen. On closer inspection, I found that the screen is bulging (curving out) on the lower left side and the screen edge has separated from the frame, exposing a gap, Some of the circuitry inside seems to be pushing out as well from what I can see through the gap, indicating something inside is exerting an outward pressure. I pushed the screen back in and with a little pressure it got flattened. However, after a few minutes use, the screen bulged out again. There is no physical damage to the screen, the bezel or the device in general, no cracks or scratches.

What is causing this and what is a possible solution?

    That type cover could be a factor.  I don't have the type cover so it certainly isn't a factor for me (I use a Bluetooth keyboard) but I do use it a lot every day, plugged into the Surface dock most of the time.  Heat is the enemy of the battery and all internal components.  Heat and over charging will cause the problem we've seen.  I suspect there were more problems with I7 processor as opposed to I5 and I3.  Faster processor generates more heat.  Mine is I5 and was replaced right at end of 3 years (lucky).  The replacement has been solid for well over a year now.  I set the option to keep charging to 50% and that will probably extend life of the battery.  There was an earlier post on that.  I depend heavily on the tablet with pen for teaching math and there is no other good option.   I considered the iPad with pen but I need a real operating system to run programs.

    Maybe, but its all speculation.  Theres a major design flaw somewhere. I suspect it's a bad battery or charging system, possiby by design, as in pushing it to some easily exceeded limit.   I and everyone I know have plenty of lithium battery - operated devices, as in tablets, cell phones, laptops, etc, and none has this problem - a battery that bulged so much to split the case wide open causing this expensive device to be useless.  We dont know of course bc MS is really not forthcoming with info nor helping (beyond a token gesture), nor exactly doing the right thing in the face of an obvious defect.

    Well, until there is a fire and somebody is killed because of an exploding lithium battery or something of sorts, my guess is MS isn't going to do anything. This is a perfect CLASS ACTION suit waiting to happen...if they were smart they would take care of us before they have a major court battle on their hands.

    Well, until there is a fire and somebody is killed because of an exploding lithium battery or something of sorts, my guess is MS isn't going to do anything. This is a perfect CLASS ACTION suit waiting to happen...if they were smart they would take care of us before they have a major court battle on their hands. 

    And, the news agencies have not reported this ongoing failure as a specific and repeated issue costing many trusting customers.

    I think LarryGordens reply is probably the right one. 

    i have received my ‘new’ surface pro and it got pretty hot even with the type cover off.

    so I’m unplugging it overnight, and will try and figure out how to enter the CMOS to limit the charging.

    will be very disappointed if this one burns up as well.
