Surface 4 Pro screen bulging at lower left edge and separated from the frame

I have a Surface 4 Pro that I purchased in March 2016. Over the last few days, I was seeing a considerable color bleed on lower left edge of the screen. Then I stared noticing that that type cover does not seem to close flat against the screen. On closer inspection, I found that the screen is bulging (curving out) on the lower left side and the screen edge has separated from the frame, exposing a gap, Some of the circuitry inside seems to be pushing out as well from what I can see through the gap, indicating something inside is exerting an outward pressure. I pushed the screen back in and with a little pressure it got flattened. However, after a few minutes use, the screen bulged out again. There is no physical damage to the screen, the bezel or the device in general, no cracks or scratches.

What is causing this and what is a possible solution?

Thanks,

Deepak

This thread was so helpful to me that I feel I must add some additional information about my positive experience.  Based on the comments here, I went to the Microsoft store with my two year old, out of warranty, Surface Pro 4 that had the same problem.  The rep said that while my device was out of warranty for this ONE issue Microsoft extended the warranty for three (3) years.  So, if you have this issue and you purchased your device less than three years ago, go directly to the store or call Microsoft for a replacement.

FYI, I purchased my Surface Pro 4 in 2017 and that device is now hard to come by so I was told immediately they will need to give me a Surface Pro 5.  However, after the associate went to get approval from the manager to give me a Surface Pro 5 he came back with a Surface Pro 6 stating that was all they had in stock.  So I got the latest and greatest Surface Pro 6 as a replacement.  The only delay was waiting for them to transfer my data from the old device to the new device.  What a quick and painless process considering I was really worried.

For the people that paid $650 for their replacement, I would suggest going back to Microsoft for a refund.

Thank you for the suggestion. I did go back and requested a refund and was told to go away. I wish i was able to meet with your experience.

In my town there is no microsoft store so i had to do it online.

Lucky you. MS employers are not all the same. The one i struck asked me various questions about my lifestyle and then charged me $650 dollars for my safety issue.

Do some research first.  This would have worked:  "I travel a lot on business and the last airplane trip I made it got so hot I thought it was going to catch on fire"

This would not have worked:  "I overclocked it to 4.25Ghz @1.26V searching for extra intelligence life.  It lasted 14 months, the second one only lasted a week and now  you say I cant have a 3rd one?

I'm sorry to hear that, IzzyOsowicki! Possible to escalate the matter through the customer service quoting successful cases?

I purchased my SP4 (I5, 8G ram, 256G drive) in February 2016 (over 3 years ago) and just had this problem, screen separating on lower left.  I followed the lead of RobertGraban (thanks Robert!) and went to support.microsoft.com/devices and logged in to my Microsoft account.  It showed my SP4, which I had registered.   I selected it and reported a problem.  The resulting page said "This device is out of warranty you will be charged  so ...".  That made me feel a little nervous but I went on with it and selected "talk to a support agent".  That resulted in a dialog that asked for my phone number.  I filled it in and within about 20 seconds of submitting that page, I got a call back from a Microsoft agent.  She asked some questions, and asked for photos of the problem.  While online with the agent, I submitted the photos.  She also asked for the serial number of the charger (perhaps that has something to do with the problem?).   The agent said the problem has been "elevated" and I'll get an email within 3 days.  She could not answer any questions about the problem or about what would be done.  The entire process of reporting the problem took no more than 20 minutes.  The next morning I had the email saying "Your Service Order Has Been Created", along with instructions.  They will send packaging for the SP4 and shipping label.  It showed 11-13 business days for estimated delivery time.  Now, I can go into my account and see status.  Right now it shows "Your package is on its way".  It shows a cost of $0.  Service Type is showing "In Warranty - Standard Exchange (Swollen Battery)".   I'm VERY surprised and pleased the service I got.

Hi guys I'd like to add my recent experience here in case others in the same boat are reading this thread.   I did the exact same thing as detailed by LarryGorden above and my experience was 99% similar.  The MS customer representative who called back was professional and swift in dealing with the issue with me on the phone.  He asked a list of questions concerning my usage pattern while I submitted photos of my defected SP4 and the charger showing the serial number.  I was told that the case would be put up to a dedicated team for evaluation.  The next day I received an e-mail notifying me that my replacement order is on its way.  The whole process took less than 1 week and I am pleased.   I'm now waiting for my replacement to come but my account has already showed an extended warranty for 1 year.  For those who are treated differently, I suggest you flag the case up as a "safety issue" (which I did) and in that case I do believe Microsoft would have to abide by the above protocol.  Perhaps "safety issue" is the magic word.  Hope this helps :)
