I have a Surface 4 Pro that I purchased in March 2016. Over the last few days, I was seeing a considerable color bleed on lower left edge of the screen. Then I stared noticing that that type cover does not seem to close flat against the screen. On closer inspection, I found that the screen is bulging (curving out) on the lower left side and the screen edge has separated from the frame, exposing a gap, Some of the circuitry inside seems to be pushing out as well from what I can see through the gap, indicating something inside is exerting an outward pressure. I pushed the screen back in and with a little pressure it got flattened. However, after a few minutes use, the screen bulged out again. There is no physical damage to the screen, the bezel or the device in general, no cracks or scratches.
What is causing this and what is a possible solution?

I wholeheartedly agree with you. When I called about it and got the response that I would have to pay $450 to get a refurbished Surface Pro 4, I was shocked. My son was using it for college and it was a great computer until the battery swelled and made it unusable. Sounds like a design flaw to me as well as a fire/shock hazard.
Buy and non-Microsoft device, there is no resolution and Microsoft is not responding.
Yes, I've read the multiple posts about this battery problem. It is unconscionable that MS makes its product to last for only a few years. For me, buying the Surface Pro 4 barely 3 years ago was my need for something small, tablet-like, easily transported to meetings and on the plane, and with a USB port. And now, this is turning out to be a really bad consumer choice on my part. Thanks for feeling our pain, StuartGross. And, shame on you, Microsoft, for refusing to make your product durable and for caring not a whit about your consumers.
Follow up to my original post.
The CPSC notified Microsoft of my complaint on May 8th, and posted my report on saferproducts.gov on the 22nd. I have not had any correspondence from MS since they were notified. The Surface is now packed in a box in my office along with hundreds of dollars worth of chargers, cables and docks etc. that are exclusive to the pc and unusable with any replacement I'd consider. I feel I was totally ripped off.
A quick read of the dozens of posts on this topic should leave you feeling let down by MS as they may come to the party ata price or not depending just how old the Surface is. Most of us have old laptops that have never died from expanding batteries just batteries that die with old age which is easily fixed. The Surface battery dying however ruins the whole unit. Good luck. Don't hold your breath tho as Redmond could not give a stuff about us
