Surface 4 Pro screen bulging at lower left edge and separated from the frame

Well, you are beyond their ridiculous 3 year warranty for battery swelling. Welcome to the frustration club. Microsoft will offer you a refurbished model for somewhere between $500-700. At that point, I think you are better off using it as a coaster for drinks, but then again, it isn't flat, so that won't work. This is a huge problem that Microsoft isn't owning. The cause is battery swelling. There are no solutions at this time. Good luck.

I have a Surface 4 Pro that I purchased in March 2016. Over the last few days, I was seeing a considerable color bleed on lower left edge of the screen. Then I stared noticing that that type cover does not seem to close flat against the screen. On closer inspection, I found that the screen is bulging (curving out) on the lower left side and the screen edge has separated from the frame, exposing a gap, Some of the circuitry inside seems to be pushing out as well from what I can see through the gap, indicating something inside is exerting an outward pressure. I pushed the screen back in and with a little pressure it got flattened. However, after a few minutes use, the screen bulged out again. There is no physical damage to the screen, the bezel or the device in general, no cracks or scratches.

What is causing this and what is a possible solution?

I think the best solution is to switch brands away from Microdoft. Any suggestions? I cannot get a live person to pick up a telephone.

The arbitration clause affects those that clicked on it, but many got their computer upgraded without doing so (eg by someone else, like a technician), and its not germane to the hardware issue anyway.  The bad battery on a surface 3 did prompted a class action settlement, for which MS offered extended battery warranty and a discounted price for replacement. They are offering similar but less generous terms for surface 4, and so im told the difference is not enough of an incentive or too risky for a law firm to go after.  Now it shows as a screen separation (after the screen becomes jittery) but MS says it doesn't pose a fire hazard (I guess they tested it), so maybe the stakes are high enough now.  Meanwhile MS continues to reap bad press and are risking personal injury claims for knowingly letting a potentially dangerous situation to be uncorrected (MS says just dont use it anymore.) I know the several retailers (eg Apple Stores) I visited are happy to take a pic and probably badmouth MS. I suppose sooner or later these stories will show when someone googles "SURFACE con issues problems".

If you want, I can give you the contact information for a couple of law firms looking into a class action suit. The problem they identified is that the agreement that you click okay to ("you can select no, but then NO WINDOWS") precludes suits and has an arbitration clause. I was ready to go to arbitration, but then decided after talking to a nice MS rep to go the refurbished Surface Book for $600. With the firmware upgrade option to set the clipboard battery to 50% maximum charge, I feel I am safe now, and for the refurbished machine, it was better than purchasing a new computer at full price. For the record, I have had 3 surface books bulge; one that was replaced under warranty, one replaced for $600, and another (with more storage and powerful processors) sitting in the closet with a bulged screen.

My surface pro 4 screen separated from the top (one month out of warranty) and MS refuses to do anything about it at all. Disgusting company. They are a fraud. Do not buy their products!  It is obviously a defect. I am thinking about starting a consumer protest campaign. What computer lasts less than three years?
