I have a Surface 4 Pro that I purchased in March 2016. Over the last few days, I was seeing a considerable color bleed on lower left edge of the screen. Then I stared noticing that that type cover does not seem to close flat against the screen. On closer inspection, I found that the screen is bulging (curving out) on the lower left side and the screen edge has separated from the frame, exposing a gap, Some of the circuitry inside seems to be pushing out as well from what I can see through the gap, indicating something inside is exerting an outward pressure. I pushed the screen back in and with a little pressure it got flattened. However, after a few minutes use, the screen bulged out again. There is no physical damage to the screen, the bezel or the device in general, no cracks or scratches.
What is causing this and what is a possible solution?

1/2 year after my warranty expired they were already out of stock, and can offer only the SP5 for $150 off.
I was most afraid of a spontaneous fire (ie Sony laptops) but was assure by MS support gent they are sure there was no fire hazard. IE they tested it bc if there was thatll be huge liability and bd press.
It could easily be poor engineering, and quality control, not just charge regulation, since none of my many Li products many predating my model, have ever catastrophically swelled and everyone knows since the beginning you cant charge Li batteries to more than 80%. which is its peak potential. When I had a repair service replace my battery (at my expense), we went thru 3 brands before the final one, and every one before got really hot when plugged in after 2 hours even tho the heat piping was ok. The scrreen would flicker and get fuzzy. Maybe the heat piping or thermostat is inadequate; maybe the battery has QC issues, maybe MS just didnt test enough or thinks they can just ignore or tolerate the bad press. In any case MS refuses to make customers whole and its entirely their fault. Note that Consumer Reports survey ranked this model as not recommended in light of the many complaints.
Wow thanks! I wonder what the best way to take the screen off is. I saw a cell phone guy do it with a small handheld blower maybe hairdryer? And a metal guitar pick and he used a few real guitar picks every time he got an opening. Problem was he still cracked the screen.
I am working on my 3rd battery. The second was replaced by Microsoft even though it was just out of warrantee. Thank you.
Some observations
The screen shattered when I tried to disassemble. One really needs to heat it to 100c to allow the glue to melt. I did not invest in "heating kit" but I did buy a tool set and tried a hair dryer. In any event it took several weeks working part time to scrape all the bits and pieces of the old screen and remove the battery. I managed to locate most (but not all) of the screws that hold the motherboard onto the case and lifted the board enough to remove the battery wiring. I also noticed that some of the screw heads were stripped as the repair center had as much trouble removing screws as I did. Some screws I had to use needle nose plyers to turn as the Torx simply spun on the screw head. Only a few screws were damaged and none by me.
The new screen I got on eBay flickered as it was a Samsung made in 2015 and I returned it. I got an LG surface pro 5 screen and ribbon cable adapter to surface pro 4. The new screen worked perfectly. I did not glue the new battery in and will use only a few "cut" pieces of the adhesive tape as I do not want to go through scrapping all the glue out again for the 4th battery.
I had one screw left over after re-assembling. There was a hole for it but the screw was not long enough to tighten and I do not want to take it apart to find the correct screw.
I will never buy another tablet, netbook, or laptop without checking the "repairability index" first.
I need to repair my 4 too and this is valuable info! I would like more specific details. Please tell me how exactly u heated the glue if not a hairdryer. Where and as specifically as u can, what u got. Did u get replacement screws; if so where? Thank!

I was with a client completing a presentation when suddenly the the lower left screen bulged out, made a pop noise and now on the left edge of the screen I can see circuit board exposure. This frightened my client and I have tried calling the NZ number for Microsoft, was connected to someone who was cut off then have heard nothing back.
They have somehow now blocked my number as when I call the support line back it defaults to an automated XBOX response and gives no option to speak to support personnel.
To say I am, disappointed is an understatement. I've contacted the NZ consumer commission on this one as I feel this faulty product should be replaced as when you check several forums this is a major issue with surface pro 4.
Please advise any Microsoft person I can contact in NZ to assist thanks.
