Battery drain overnight while shutdown

Lately, after I shutdown (full shutdown, not sleep or hibernate) my fully charged Surface Laptop 2 at night, I turn it on in the morning and find that the battery has lost around 25% power overnight! What's going on and how can I fix this?

The laptop is only about 6 months old and the battery seems to be in good health.

    Johnny,

Your "solution" could have dramatic performance implications. Fortunately, it is easy to reverse if anyone encounters it.

    James,

I'd REALLY like to see a screen shot of Settings, Updates, Update History with Drivers expanded from your Surface Laptop.

There is no performance degradation Barb, I have using it all day with no issues app Producivity & Creative and ADMs functions and battery is performing as it once was, prior to the August update.  If you turn on SMT, that's when performance is impacted dramatically as Super Scaler programming function is not fully optimized.

NOTE*)  This has been tested with a large set of Surface Pro 3, 4, Laptop, 1, 2 units -  Non are facing the issue reported since being disabled.

That is good that you are not seeing a perf hit. I just wanted to express the appropriate "disclaimer" that it COULD have an impact.

Understood - I would not post unless tested.  These are all real world production machines that needed a fix ASAP for its users.  But thank you for the acknowledgement.

Also if you have a Surface that is impacted and not on a insiders build have at it and try, you'll see for yourself.  Try it for validation.
