Lately, after I shutdown (full shutdown, not sleep or hibernate) my fully charged Surface Laptop 2 at night, I turn it on in the morning and find that the battery has lost around 25% power overnight! What's going on and how can I fix this?
The laptop is only about 6 months old and the battery seems to be in good health.

I’m considering visiting an MS Store, but I’m willing to bet that they will run some standard diagnostics (I’ve already followed troubleshooting guides and used the Surface diagnostic toolkit) and find nothing wrong. It probably won’t be possible to reproduce the problem on the spot, and at best they’ll offer me a refurbished replacement, which is not what I want, and may just end up with the same problem.
Given that this is most likely a software/firmware problem, the best course of action might just be bringing it to MS’s attention as much as possible and hoping it gets fixed in an update.
If you get the "right" person at a Store, they have other channels back to engineering. I wasn't suggesting an exchange, but maybe an opportunity to use other means to draw attention to the issue. There's obviously something going on here. I'm doing everything *I* can, but so far all I've gotten is to tell people to "contact support and file a report with the feedback app". Back when SP3's starting having battery issues, I alerted an internal contact and kept at it, but it took 9 months for an official public statement and a so-so fix.
Thank you, I appreciate your efforts. In addition to this thread and using the feedback hub, I’ve also reached out to Microsoft Support on Twitter. They quickly replied to me through direct message and guided me through some troubleshooting. They also directed me to the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. I’m impressed by the concern that they showed and how much they did try to help, but in the end it came down to “get it checked out”.
So I will weigh my options and consider visiting the MS Store if there are no further developments.
I'm curious if anyone has experienced the drop starting from anything other than 100% charged? For example, has anyone shutdown their device at 60% and found it with just 40% upon start up?
If this only happens when the battery is at 100%, that's another clue that can help reveal the root cause. I always go to bed with my laptop fully charged, but I think I'll try experimenting.
