Lately, after I shutdown (full shutdown, not sleep or hibernate) my fully charged Surface Laptop 2 at night, I turn it on in the morning and find that the battery has lost around 25% power overnight! What's going on and how can I fix this?
The laptop is only about 6 months old and the battery seems to be in good health.

This would also seem to suggest that it's not actually a battery drain issue but rather poor calibration of the software reading the charge. That's a less troubling problem, at least, but still very annoying and disappointing for MS's flagship devices. Regardless of what's going on I would very much like a fix.
My previous Surface Pro 6 that I took in for replacement due to the battery issues I was able to observe a 25% loss when the device was shut down and within a 20 minute span!
With my latest replacement unit here is what I have found out so far, and I hope this is a solution.
I charged my Surface unit to 100%, then used it unplugged until the battery depleted and died on me, then I charged it all the way back up to 100%.
It is too early to tell if that solved the issue but so far I am not seeing any drop when I turn on my device. I will update after a week, and a month after.
I know about fast start. I mentioned above, I shut it off and I still lost about 9% overnight.
And apparently, with fast start still off, I lost over 20% today while my PC was off for less than 20 minutes! I don't see how that's possible given that my battery lasts for 10+ hours when the computer is in use!
When these devices were initially released the fast start up feature used only about 2% power overnight, this was true with Windows 10 until the Creators Update last year (around the time Microsoft decided they did not need a proper Quality and Assurance testing team (and sacked most of them). Since then the fast start uses anything from 12% to 20%.
All surface products do not turn off completly, even using a command like Shutdown in the command line does not completely turn off all the components. Some live functions remain for network wake-up and clock wake functions. But as I have found out from research the power efficiency has dropped dramatically in recent updates, and Microsoft apparently doesn't give a **** !
I have not seen anything about some of the more extreme examples of battery usage or reporting with any concrete answer, but I'd return any unit still under warrenty if it was any more that 12% at the moment. Maybe Microsoft will push out a working upodate that returns efficency back to 2%, but don't hold your breath.
