OK a few weeks after my first attempt to activate the eSIM on SD2, I tried again this morning. (cause who's got time to keep calling tech support on summer weekends! LoL)
I went through the same steps as before, first attempting to download the eSIM from the Verizon Wireless website via QR code. I unfortunately received the same error as before:
"Profile already downloaded
Make sure that the selected SIM profile hasn't been downloaded on this device or another device.
For more help, contact your carrier.
You can provide the following information to your carrier:
- Subject Code 8.2
- Reason Code 1.2
You may need the EID number for this device."
After my failed download attempt, I called Verizon and walked through the steps with the technician (I gave him both IMEI slots 1&2 and the EID #). What happened next, I can't fully articulate, but he mentioned from his end it appeared the pSIM (physical SIM) is assigned to both IMEI slots 1&2 and he was unable to force the eSIM to download to the unused SIM slot. (...sorry that's the best I can explain what I heard...) He also tried to use the EID # from the unused SIM slot, but that failed too.
Anyways, after trying to force the eSIM download he read some open tickets and found other Verizon customers have the same issue without resolution. That's when he determined the Surface Duo 2 eSIM is not compatible with Verizon at this moment. .....wow, complete Bummer! (sheds tear)
Pretty shocking that Microsoft's flagship device centered around productivity is unable to utilize the eSIM on arguably America's biggest cellular network more than 9 months after the release date, but unfortunately that's where we are today!!! (sheds another tear)
I guess these are the trials and tribulations of early adopters?!?!?
At this particular moment, it seems like all we can do is hope and pray that Microsoft helps Verizon make the SD2 eSIM compatible with VZW cellular service or we hope and pray that Verizon figures out themselves how to make SD2 compatible with VZW cellular service.
At any rate, I'm riding on the SD2 band wagon for the long haul cause I absolutely love this device and wouldn't switch it even with this eSIM issue!!!! Nonetheless, I still really want to maximize productivity on SD2, so if anyone has successfully setup the SD2 eSIM on Verizon Wireless or any other cellular service in USA (AT&T, etc...), please drop a comment!!!!!
Thanks in Advance,
Dee Nice
