I love the new SP4 pen, but I've noticed the pen pressure is not consistent. The biggest problem is that paint brush strokes in Photoshop don't taper smoothly when drawing. I tired using the SP4 pen on my Surface Pro 3 and it doesn't have any problem. Here is a screen capture of what I'm talking about.
Since the pen isn't the problem I'm assuming it's a calibration issue with the Surface Pro 4. I downloaded new Wintab drivers to see if that would solve the problem (got the idea from this thread about pen problems).
It's not just Photoshop. The actual Surface pen pressure app has the same problem. It's harder to see because the brush strokes are thinner, but there is a much faster tapering happening than there is on the Surface Pro 3. Here is a screen cap:

As some of you have already noticed, on July 14th, 2016, we released an update to the Surface Touch Driver that should significantly improve the pen tapering and pressure experience that this thread talks about.

Though I'm not getting rid of my Surface Pro 4 (it was too expensive for that!) I'm certainly not be going to be one of the first adopters to any new Microsoft product again.
This is exactly how I feel as well. I really want to be an early adopter, but not at these kind of cost to my personal economy. I expect these kind of issues on a $765 acer product, not a sublime SP4 made by Microsoft themselves with a $ 2k+ pricetag!

I got the full enchilada i7. And to be fair there's a lot to like about it. Unfortunately every time I sit down to use the thing, the first thing I do is check for updates rather than think about art. (That's if the thing actually turns on and the on screen keypad comes up for me to enter my pin, but that's not really what this thread is about).
I don't understand how they promote 2k levels of when the falloff is WAY worse than SP3? How were they testing this thing? Gonna state the obvious here... but 128 levels of pressure that work are more useful than 2000 that don't. Its kinda feels like false advertising.
Like a lot of people here, I guess I assumed the teething problems would be ironed out pretty quick. Kinda messes with your return period cos your thinking any day now it will be worth what I paid.

Makes me wonder if its a hardware flaw and to admit it would trigger a nasty expensive recall...
Same problem here... disappointed they haven't answered any of these questions in this forum. If you have twitter we should all post to @surfacesupport - i did once a month or so ago and never got a reply but if enough of us do maybe they will. Also we should add @surface to the tweet. Microsoft won't want all potential buyers seeing these problems have not been addressed.

This is exactly what I am thinking. I love MS for their impressively new-way of thinking software, but they really need to not ignore these kind of issues. They are no better than Apple at the moment.
I mean... Ultimately, I want to help them regain a great PR (it _really_ sucks in Denmark) and so I buy these kind of things to really help promote the awesomeness that it is - but they really ruin it for themselves when I have to honestly tell my friends and familiy: "This and that is super awesome, and I love it! ... But I cannot recommend it at ALL if you're dependant on X feature, because they simply won't listen to just one 'whiny' voice."
And that's the simple sad fact I am currently experiencing =/
I don't know... Maybe we're all spoiled and whiny - but something about this just stinks corporate - cold hard calculations in what is profittable and what is not.
