I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode.

Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.

I have the 32 GB Ryzen, so the local Store won't take it back because they don't stock it. 3000.00 paperweight. Never again.

Here is what I did to solve the problem.

    • I downloaded driver booster (freeware) to update 2  drivers. I had only 2 drivers to update.
    • I downloaded the firmware update for my microsoft surface laptop 3
    • I ran sfc /scannow from CMD
    • I ran dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    • I downloaded the surface diagnostic tool and I ran it
    • I reinstalled windows 10 udpdate 1903

    UPDATE: 19/03/2020

Everything I did previously was useless.

It looks like the problem comes from the Qualcomm atheros QCA61x4a network adapter.

When I disabled the wifi, it stopped rebooting on its own. SO, I rolled back the driver to the .916 version. The problem came from the driver version ending with .926

In the reason field I mentionned it crashed the computer.

There is a quick fix about it, disable your network adapter and by a USB wifi. It should work.

    error was

Miniport Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter, {808cdab1-987e-446f-bba1-a513aae7ecfb}, had event Fatal error: The miniport has detected an internal error

Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4A Wireless Network Adapter : Has determined that the network adapter is not functioning properly.

Is there a fix to the restarting when the Surface Laptop 3 is put to sleep? I was told at first it was a hardware issue. After tech support erased my machine and reinstalled everything, they then told me it was a known issue that was being worked on.

Hi Tyler, thank goodness someone else has described my exact issue.  Purchased in March 2020 (3 weeks ago), computer seems to shutdown/restart after going to sleep.  I only have VS 2019, VS Code and Chrome installed.  Perfect device otherwise.
