I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode.
Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.

I have the same issue. I bought it brand new and it's randomly restarting or shutting down. I updated "everything".... latest windows version, etc. PLEASE Help.... This shouldn't be happening on a brand new laptop.
No joke, we did a full wipe and re-install of the OS and it fixed the issue. It has been months and no issue.
I can confirm that I also did a full wipe of my machine back in December using the latest recovery image downloaded at the time. Since then my machine has crashed only twice, and I use my machine at least 8 hours a day for work.
Not perfect and certainly not what I expect from a machine of this price, but compared to the daily crashes I was getting pre-wiping, a pretty good improvement. This is insane that this issue is still not fully addressed.

After getting the tech to use her active listening skills (she asked me if I'd tried a reset yet - I asked if Microsoft sends out their devices with faulty software), they're sending me out a new one. Keep in mind that my current SL3 is a replacement for another hardware issue I was having, so I've had Thing 2 here for all of a week and the spontaneous reboots were happening right out of the box BEFORE I ran OS and firmware updates -- and continued thereafter.
From what I am seeing, this seems to be an AMD box issue, as I'm not seeing it connected to the SL3 Intel CPUs.
So I guess another question is "Is this also happening with Intel CPU-powered SL3s?"
Seems to be AMD specific.
I just got a replacement box (different issue) and my new one has the spontaneous reboot issue.
Chatted with MS's online chat a few minutes ago and will be getting a replacement box.
