Surface Laptop 3 Restarting Randomly

I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode.

Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.

I had this problem after making the mistake of resetting my original factory settings thinking I would the same fresh start and great experience. Surface Laptop 3 AMD Ryzen 7 3750U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx, 2300 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s). OS Build 18363.997 Version 1909 Windows 10 Home

I recovered with USB image recovery multiple times as well as updated to latest updates and drivers with no luck.

I found a solution on Reddit that has been helping so far. Done test on battery and plugged in and both have not restarted when waking from pc (reproduceable on demand prior...

Worth a try to see if it works for you guys.

Go to Device Manager > System devices > AMD Audio Coprocessor > Click Properties > Click Power Management Tab > Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off the device > Restart

(again not my solution just passing it along as it helped me)

Oh I thought I was the only one. My surface laptop 3 (Ryzen 5, 16GB RAM 256 ssd) does the same. 1st thing I always do - ALL updates. Right after restarts started. then installed VS 2019 Community, VSCode, postman, OpenVPN client and Chrome and it became even more annoying. Checked reliability logs and it mostly says "system shutdown at 09:52:29 on ‎20/‎07/‎2020 was unexpected". reset did not help. I know the post I am replying to is from 2019, but today is July 2020 and exact same problem. Microsoft, please fix it asap or simply stop selling such devices... I needed this machine for work but ended up with 1 month of resetting and following same steps from multiple support agents.

After a few weeks on the new laptop it is now happening to me. Same spec as OP.

I'm on Windows 10 1903. Standard software installed + VS2019, Visual Code, Snagit, Visio.

    No other peripherals added.

It did it both whilst lid closed and also did it few times mid way through me just using the laptop (plugged in). No warning, just blue screen of death. I can't believe this debacle is still going on after 6 months. This is a nightmare, especially when you are trying to start up a new business.

All I can see is "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly." Event ID 41

I have tried the downgrade of the Qualcomm driver, and fingers crossed that works. Can anyone verify if the downgrade as worked for them? I'm ruling out asking for another one as most people have said the problem just reoccurs.

I have the exact same problem. I have already got a replacement and the issue still persists. When I raise the issue to Microsoft support, they say we can send you another replacement. This is ignoring the problem because I do not believe a replacement will solve the problem. Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 has way too many problems. Plus, each replacement means I should be spending my time to transfer my data and set up all the software I had installed on the previous laptop and at the end I will end up with same issues.

@Microsoft Please take responsibility of this issue!!! You have not solved the issue and have remained silent while people are complaining. I would appreciate a refund at this point so I can get a reliable laptop that does not restarts on its own when I am in the middle of something important or a laptop that I should not wait for 6 MONTHS for an update so I can make video calls via Google Chrome. This is embarrassing! You have truly let me down especially during a time that we rely on our laptops more than anytime.
