I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode.

Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.

To confirm,  I downloaded the firmware for the SL3 from the website and basically ran it standalone.   I have not had the system restart when I was having it happen every hour or so before hand.

Give it a try before you send it back because I have had a great experience minus this one problem.

Just to confirm this is just installing the latest Surface Laptop 3 firmware package ( 8/31 ) resolved your issues as I have just received a replacement unit ( having encountered the cracked screen bug ! ) and experiencing this issue. I`ve checked the versions above and am running that code but still seeing reboots :(

I think Microsoft will be replacing this unit but will be 3rd in 3 months - what a terrible experience and I wish I`d never brought one as had no issues on SL2 & SP2 which I still use for work.

So far since installing the September Surface update, mine has been stable (for 10 days).  About the same time I installed, I also received new Windows patches and I've heard there were issues as well so you might want to verify you have both.

I had a LOT of issues just getting the update to install so I would recommend that you verify that the most current firmware actually did install by checking the list of firmware updates from https://support.microsoft.com/help/4526150 against the Firmware in Device Manager, just to be sure.

    Hope it helps!

I did the original update through the windows update system.

I just downloaded and flashed manually.  so far I am about 3 hours in and no forced restarting.  So everyone else give it a shot!
