I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode.

Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.

I've gone 24hr and looking ok still.

Can I ask how did the replacement go with all the MS stores closed? Did you have to return yours first (you paid for postage) and they upon receipt sent you a new one?

I tired that but made no difference for me....luckily I`ve been shipped a new device and no issues so far ( 24hrs +) so can only assume its batch of h/w issues.

I stumbled upon this other similar thread:

See comments from Alireza, about the device manager setting:

    "Device Manager>System devices>AMD Audio Coprocessor >

then in power management tab : UNCHECK allow the computer to turn off the device... "

I have tried this and whilst it is early days it is looking good. Obviously I have also done the CPU upgrade and my machine is fully patched. I also ran the Surface Diagnostic tool which showed no errors.

The fans are even now very quiet. Fingers crossed this change sticks, but the real test for me is leaving it overnight going into sleep mode. I have only done several '5 minute' sleep tests.

    Greg,

I tried installing the most current Surface update and I THOUGHT it solved the issue, but sadly, it did not.  I am still experiencing random reboots that happen (1) while my Surface is plugged in; (2) while my surface is on battery; (3) while doing nothing but surfing via MS Edge; etc.  In other words, there doesn't seem to be a common denominator when it reboots.  I never get a BSOD and it immediately comes back up after a reboot.  I have ran diagnostics multiple times, but the problem began right out of the box and so far, no update has resolved the issue.

I am a System Administrator by profession so I would be happy to provide logs and troubleshoot with the techs to try and resolve the issue instead of returning it, but I don't want to open a ticket and go through all the steps that have already been tried with other users who are all obviously experiencing the same issue.

Appreciate any assistance you can provide.

    Thanks,

    Dawn
