Surface Laptop 3 Restarting Randomly

I have experienced some random reboots as well. Screen just goes hard black in the middle of a very active and important video call, then I see the Microsoft logo and the device reboots.

Surface Laptop 3 15"

AMD Ryzen 5 Surface Edition

16GB RAM / 256GB SSD

Windows 10 20H2

Sad thing is I've been on the phone with Microsoft tech support for a long time. Hours even. And they tell me that the only solution is to reset my entire computer. Which I don't think is the problem because I see other people having the same issue.

That being said they also tell me that I'm the only one that's ever reported this issue. I find that hard to believe as well.

You most definitely are not the only one with the issue.  I was send a replacement that randomly restarted about 10 times within the first hour of use which I was only running Windows updates and the Diagnostics Tool Kit. The issue is the Ryzen processor. People have returned their for one with the intel processor and that seemed to have resolved the issue.  I have  8.0 GB RAM vs your 16. Microsoft support service has been playing dumb and I think they are well aware of the issue. Some folks on this thread have talked about a possible class action lawsuit.  Would you care to join?

This update did nothing for me when done over 4 weeks ago. It randomly restarted THREE times today alone during the middle of use. I was watching a YouTube video luckily but this is getting ridiculous!! WHY ISN'T THERE A FIX FOR THIS YET? 

Thinking of returning mine at this point. I can't have these these random restarts when i'm working with critical  timely data that needs to be pushed out for work.

I found the solution. Sent the piece of junk back and bought the business Intel i7 version. No more issues or time wasted trying to get the best of out thsi AMD abomination. They should refund everyone and comp them an Intel model. Junk I tell you. I wasted so much time and support was worse than the product itself. Even the higher level support. 

My first ever Surface product disappointment. 

I'm unable to get a refund or exchange at this point. Am only covered under the 1 yr warranty  and they said that for the replacements you get 90 day warranty. They have send a 2nd replacement out. Let's see what happens with that. I don't understand why we as the customer have to due the quality check on these machines. They should be doing that before the equipment it shipped out. We're essentially doing their work for them. Such garbage.

I tried several times to ask support to exchange it for the Intel version and I even said I would pay the difference. No deal. They said they can't process it through their system.

"We checked the case and base on the request that you want to replace your Surface device to deferent processor. We try to process a replacement but it will not go through since our tools will not allow.

 The option that we have is a like for like replacement only. I consult to the Repair team and they mention that the best option we can do for this issue is to process a like for like replacement on your Surface device and they assure you will not encounter this issue in the replacement device." Hilarious.

Not sure what the next move it. Class action lawsuit maybe?

I think it's time. Actually even long overdue.  Anyone else want in?
