I understand that Microsoft for some really strange reason is not putting 4G LTE in the Surface Pro 3 but are there any compatible air cards like the Verizon USB style that can provide the 4G? It also needs to be Windows 8 or 8.1 for required software capability.
Obviously I saw the Verizon USB but Verizon can not tell me if it will work with Surface Pro.
Has anyone out there done this before?
Reason is that there are many of us that are actually do business on these things and have no access to safe wireless connections or desire to run hot spots in airports. My IPAD 1 (just cracked the screen) can do it but unfortunately my software requires Windows to connect to the workplace. The Surface Pro looks great but without a safe connection it has little utility.

You have to contact Verizon Wireless customer support for something like that - not Microsoft. Anything that would attach to the computer or external device to work with would be on 'that' device manufacturer.
As for Verizon, though, they have a mobile hotspot called the 'JetPack'.
Verizon Wireless does offer a device called a Jetpack MiFi 6620L that looks to do just that.
I did see that but they cannot say if it will work with Surface Pro.
It works with any computer with WiFi. BUT, the Marvell Avastar adapter within the tablet is a question mark since it does not like routers - and the mobile hotspot is technically a router (supports up to 4 devices and a range of about 150 feet).
You can contact Verizon customer support because it 'may' work with the Marvell adapter because Verizon is on cue to get the Surface 3 LTE model later this year. It too has the Marvell adapter as well.
I can tell you that there is no guarantee that anything works with these tablets (all models). WiFi has been the biggest issue there.
As an alternative and if you are in an area that has WiFi, you can get a USB WiFi adapter instead. I have one myself which is an off-brand and the crazy thing hooked right up with a Surface Pro 3. Since it is a different adapter, no worries of the Marvell getting in the way (you do leave the Marvell adapter ON). Airplane mode shuts off both if needed. Those things are dirt cheap but can get pretty warm when in use.
A lot of airlines are now providing WiFi onboard now and you can try that as well when traveling.
The tablet itself cannot be upgraded for LTE and thus an external means is the only option you have. You can also wait and check with Verizon as to when they will get the Surface 3 LTE model and get one of those. It is Intel based and will run regular software.
A friend of mine has a SP3 I7/512 for his work. He does use the Verizon Wireless Jetpack. He said that the combination works well. But, if the chip is that finicky, others might have different results.
