Airpods Not connecting property to Surface Pro 10

I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I had the same exact problem with the Airpods Pro. My problem, as you mentioned, was the the rapid flickering back and forth between Paired andConnectedwith the Airpods ultimately never connecting. 

For me, the solution was to restart the whole process as follows:

  1. Place your Airpods or Airpods Pro back into the case > Close the case > Set the Airpods down. 
  2. On your Surface computer > Settings > Devices
  3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth
  4. Pickup Airpods Case > Open Airpods case (Don't remove Airpods) > Press/Hold button on back of Airpods case until the Airpods are located by your Surface computer.

Your Surface computer should be able to at least find your Airpods by following the above steps.

*This is where I started having the problem stated at the beginning*

Solution:

  1. Go to settings > Type "Device Manager" in the search box.
  2. Once Device Manager is open, select Human Interface Devices
  3. Locate Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device > Right-Click >Properties
  4. Select the 5th tab called Power Management
  5. Locate the checkbox "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and UNCHECK this box!
  6. RESTART COMPUTER! *(This is what ultimately fixed my problem)*

I couldn't even find a "Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device"  under Human Interface Devices, and any other Bluetooth options in the Device Manager didn't have a power management option. However, when I clicked on "Converted Portable Device Control device properties" under Human Interface Devices, I found the power management option and disabled it. My AirPods are working correctly now. I hope I'm not saying this too soon and that it's not just because I just updated my Surface, but I've had this problem for a long time and updates haven't fixed the problem before. Hopefully this will work for you. It's unfortunate we have to deep dive into our settings to get headphones to connect right.

    I was having the same problem with the airPods connecting and then just falling quickly back to the default "paired" state (even after I tried forgetting the device and re-adding it), and what ended up fixing it for me was simply restarting my surface once it stated that my device was "paired." The surface then restarted with the headphones already connected. Unsure whether this has to do with the fact that the headphones will automatically connect to the iPhone when it turns back on (and thus does something similar with the computer), but either way, this worked for me. (I have a Surface Book 2).

    I’m having the same issue and this is not solving the problem.

    Hi,

    I just connected mine and they're working perfectly fine. However, I do tweak my Surface Pro 2017's setting a lot for other reasons. So here is the last notable change I've made;  Open Search, type in Performance, click Adjust the Performance and Appearance of Windows, then click Adjust for best performance. I think the display quality decreased ever so slightly but after using for a bit I don't even notice. It is definitely something I can live with to be able to use my awesome Airpod Pro's. I'm on Windows 10. Please let me know if this method worked for any of you and if it works with the previous gen Airpods.
