Airpods Not connecting property to Surface Pro 10

I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I had the same exact problem with the Airpods Pro. My problem, as you mentioned, was the the rapid flickering back and forth between Paired andConnectedwith the Airpods ultimately never connecting. 

For me, the solution was to restart the whole process as follows:

  1. Place your Airpods or Airpods Pro back into the case > Close the case > Set the Airpods down. 
  2. On your Surface computer > Settings > Devices
  3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth
  4. Pickup Airpods Case > Open Airpods case (Don't remove Airpods) > Press/Hold button on back of Airpods case until the Airpods are located by your Surface computer.

Your Surface computer should be able to at least find your Airpods by following the above steps.

*This is where I started having the problem stated at the beginning*

Solution:

  1. Go to settings > Type "Device Manager" in the search box.
  2. Once Device Manager is open, select Human Interface Devices
  3. Locate Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device > Right-Click >Properties
  4. Select the 5th tab called Power Management
  5. Locate the checkbox "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and UNCHECK this box!
  6. RESTART COMPUTER! *(This is what ultimately fixed my problem)*

I couldn't even find a "Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device"  under Human Interface Devices, and any other Bluetooth options in the Device Manager didn't have a power management option. However, when I clicked on "Converted Portable Device Control device properties" under Human Interface Devices, I found the power management option and disabled it. My AirPods are working correctly now. I hope I'm not saying this too soon and that it's not just because I just updated my Surface, but I've had this problem for a long time and updates haven't fixed the problem before. Hopefully this will work for you. It's unfortunate we have to deep dive into our settings to get headphones to connect right.

    I have this same issue. So I called tech support to "fix" the issue and they re install the drivers and make me waste about an hour and a half on the phone with them, only to have this same problem the next day. Every time they "fix" an issue a anew one comes up. I'm tired of this terrible device that was so expensive. I do not even want to fix it, I just want my money back and return the item and stop being a client of such a terrible product and service, but my warranty is not being honored. Please someone tell me how I can stop being their customer. This machine is going to get me fired from my job because I cannot rely on it for the most basic of functions. 

    The following picture shows the problem I have every day with this terrible device. Even after I troubleshooted this problem with their tech support multiple times. They said that they would give me another device and supposedly said that they would call me back, but guess what they have not called me back within a week. I am not going to wait until this thing gets me fired before I take action.

    Please, to someone who can actually help, HELP!

    The difference I have seen in all my windows devices is the MARVELL AVASTAR Bluetooth drive which appears in my 2012 surface pro - this is the same device that works perfectly fine and well. As for my surface pro 2017, I gave up and gave away - flickering issue also came about.

    I shall try your method on my other windows device(boot camp)which is having a slight issue too - can only "connect music" which should correctly be "connect voice music" for both audio and mic to work.

    Have Surface Pro4 (windows 10 V1909) and airpod pro (paired it on 5/23) working just fine for a couple of days and somehow today couldn't find "turn on bluetooth" in setting or notification, then removed/added my airpods pro again from bluetooth device and started running to "connected" and "disconnected" issue every 3 seconds and found this forum but couldn't really find a fix for me. 

    Good news is this was what I did below and get it working again, restart 5 times still working: A. in device manager, identify/uninstall driver related to Airpods pro, so I found 2 under "bluetooth", 2 under "Sound, video, and game Controllers", 1 under "System Devices"; B. In start>setting>Bluetooth & Other Devices, click on Airpods Pro and remove it; C. Add Bluetooth Device as airpods pro pairing instruction
