I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I had the same exact problem with the Airpods Pro. My problem, as you mentioned, was the the rapid flickering back and forth between Paired andConnectedwith the Airpods ultimately never connecting.

For me, the solution was to restart the whole process as follows:

  1. Place your Airpods or Airpods Pro back into the case > Close the case > Set the Airpods down.
  2. On your Surface computer > Settings > Devices
  3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth
  4. Pickup Airpods Case > Open Airpods case (Don't remove Airpods) > Press/Hold button on back of Airpods case until the Airpods are located by your Surface computer.

Your Surface computer should be able to at least find your Airpods by following the above steps.

*This is where I started having the problem stated at the beginning*

Solution:

  1. Go to settings > Type "Device Manager" in the search box.
  2. Once Device Manager is open, select Human Interface Devices
  3. Locate Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device > Right-Click >Properties
  4. Select the 5th tab called Power Management
  5. Locate the checkbox "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and UNCHECK this box!
  6. RESTART COMPUTER! *(This is what ultimately fixed my problem)*

Hope this helps! Wish it wasn't this complicated but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I couldn't even find a "Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device"  under Human Interface Devices, and any other Bluetooth options in the Device Manager didn't have a power management option. However, when I clicked on "Converted Portable Device Control device properties" under Human Interface Devices, I found the power management option and disabled it. My AirPods are working correctly now. I hope I'm not saying this too soon and that it's not just because I just updated my Surface, but I've had this problem for a long time and updates haven't fixed the problem before. Hopefully this will work for you. It's unfortunate we have to deep dive into our settings to get headphones to connect right.

Thank you, this worked for today. just like every time I call tech support and today it works. So I will let you know tomorrow or in a phew days if it still works. It often happens that the next day or two days later it goes back to not working. I really do not appreciate when this happens during work hours. So, even with the airpods "working for now" both airpods (pro and regular) still display "driver error" beneath the devices.

I was offered by the company that they would send a new machine because if those drivers are not working, I do not want to find out what also does not work in the near future, specially in front of my co-workers and boss.

I truly do not want another device because I know it will come with a whole new set of problems that I do not want to find out about. They refuse to either give me a different model or give me my money back, so I really still cannot recommend this product of company to anyone. It took a blogger to fix an issue that the same tech support guys could not fix. Again, that does not give me confidence in the product at all.

    Hi @PaulRyan

Hope it finally works well and stable for you.

I have just done whatever had been suggested in this threads, and just spoke to Microsoft Support for drivers update and even Apple Support to reinstall my bootcamp Windows but they don't work too.

Am calling Microsoft back again because apparently even after resintalling boot camp(last resort), Windows version is not the updated 2004 which the Support says would help the connection. My current Windows version is 1909.

Totally agree with you about recommending Microsoft devices to anyone.
