Surface Laptop 3 Faint Buzzing Sound

the dell xps line is infamous for its horrible coil whine issues, i've tried the 9370 and the latest 2-in-1 and both of them had much louder whining than my surface laptop 3 (which is quite loud to begin with!)

i've had mine for a month. i5, 13.5 inch, platinum alcantara. just recently started noticing a buzzing, rattling noise coming from mainly the upper part of the keyboard. it isn't super high in frequency so i wouldn't call it whining per se, it's more akin to the sound of a tiny electric toothbrush!

i can just BARELY hear it when i'm sitting at a normal distance from the computer. when i lean in closer it's more noticeable, even worse if i put my ear close to the underside of the laptop. 

strange though: it's at its worst when the computer is idle, or when i'm using the browser. if i start up a game from steam, it goes dead silent, no matter if it's a high demanding game or some old point & click from the 90's. i also downloaded userbenchmark, and during the time it ran there was no noise whatsoever.

it's a GREAT laptop in any other regard. everything works like a charm, screen is excellent, no backlight bleed which is really important for me. the noise is annoying, sure, but i'm sure i can live with it. and there's also some hope that either microsoft or intel will be able to rectify at least part of the issue with a driver update. they're no doubt aware of the problem.

hearing about how people go through three or four trade-ins all with the same noise issues makes me less inclined to try and change mine.

I took it to my local Microsoft store and spend an hour and a half with a tech doing all the software updates, playing with the audio settings, etc and they had NO IDEA what was wrong with it and had no notes in their system about an issue with this computer doing this. They offered to replace my laptop even though I purchased it at Bestbuy, but I figured I'd check with the Geeksquad before replacing it through Microsoft or through Bestbuy.

I arrive at Bestbuy and the geeksquad gets to work with my computer, blowing high powered air in the speakers, checking the setitngs and updates once again, etc.  They can't figure out what is wrong with it, but since I was under warranty they offered to replace it right then with the same exact laptop, which I decide to do.

***BUT HERE'S THE KICKER- as soon as I powered on the brand new replacement laptop (STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SEALED BOX), I figured I might as well confirm that this laptop doesnt have the same issue but IT IS MAKING THE EXACT SAME SOUND- WHILE ON THE VERY FIRST START UP WINDOW ASKING ME TO CHOOSE A LANGUAGE FOR MY NEW DEVICE. Clearly this is not an audio issue or a computing power issue at all, but some inherent software or hardware defect. 

I'd really appreciate it if Microsoft could get on this seeing that so many of us are experiencing this issue with our brand new laptops. I am worried that if nothing is mentioned for the next year or so, but then a recall is made, Microsoft will pull a houdini on everyone and only recall and issue new devices for those still under warranty. Is this something we should be worried about, or will Microsoft honor recalls for all affected devices regardless of Microsoft warranty status?

New firmware update just released.

I was hoping for a fix but the problem is still there

I updated  the new firmware, it's running really smooth so far, no buzzing fan noise .... really hope that it can fix the issue. keep u updated!
