Surface Laptop 3 Faint Buzzing Sound

Hello,

I’ve got the i5 8GB Surface Laptop 3 (13.5-inch), and today, while browsing the internet, I noticed a fairly faint  buzzing sound coming from under the keyboard. It was faint enough you couldn’t hear it from a couple metres away, and sometimes buzzed continuously, other times buzzed in short repetitive bursts.

It didn’t sound like the fan to me, so I opened up the task manager to see if browsing was straining the computer in some way.

I have updated the computer completely, but the buzzing persisted.

Is this a normal electronics problem? Is it actually just the fan? Or is it possibly a defective unit?

Edit/Update:

I took the device into the MS Store today to see if there was something wrong. The staff took it into the back and tested it. They found increasing the computer's workload caused the sound to increase and described it as a popping static-y sound. They replaced the device and I have a new one now. Unfortunately, I've found through usage that this one is also making the sound. I am waiting to see if a firmware update reduces the noise since it seems pervasive across the devices.

    I've noticed this, but your particular observation can be fixed by not using the Netflix app. It's something with the sounds files that makes the speakers buzz, so I just use the browser.

    I am having the same problem. Mine is the surface laptop 3, 13.5" I7 16gb its not even a month old. I found it seems to be certain sound frequencies. It happens when you hear the netflix intro before watching a netflix movie. Low frequencies like in horror movies are the worst for the buzzing.

    I have tried moving it to different table tops just to make sure and it still buzzes. I watched the same movies on both my surface laptop 1st gen and surface laptop 3 to compare and my 1st gen doesnt make the buzzing noise on the same movies. 

    Its really frustrating when the speakers are one of the main selling points of the laptop.

    Certainly causes me to question Microsoft customer care. All of us have these loud buzzes that are non stop. Like an airplane all day long. And they refuse to make any repairs.

    Mine is a 3.  Loud and continuous buzzing. Rarely stops. I understand there is a registry change?

    Open Command Prompt as administrator and run the following command:

    reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Processor /v Capabilities /t REG_DWORD /d 0x0007e066

    That will disable the Advance Configuration and Power Interface C2-state and C3-state.

    This solution has already been recommended by Microsoft for a similar issue, see the link below:

    But please note that the computer idle power consumption will increase significantly if the processor idle sleep states are disabled.

    In my case the battery autonomy decreased with around 30%.

    That means the device battery will die faster.

    After spending so much money on this device, it's absolutely disappointing,
