Surface Laptop 3 Faint Buzzing Sound

Hello,

I’ve got the i5 8GB Surface Laptop 3 (13.5-inch), and today, while browsing the internet, I noticed a fairly faint  buzzing sound coming from under the keyboard. It was faint enough you couldn’t hear it from a couple metres away, and sometimes buzzed continuously, other times buzzed in short repetitive bursts.

It didn’t sound like the fan to me, so I opened up the task manager to see if browsing was straining the computer in some way.

I have updated the computer completely, but the buzzing persisted.

Is this a normal electronics problem? Is it actually just the fan? Or is it possibly a defective unit?

Edit/Update:

I took the device into the MS Store today to see if there was something wrong. The staff took it into the back and tested it. They found increasing the computer's workload caused the sound to increase and described it as a popping static-y sound. They replaced the device and I have a new one now. Unfortunately, I've found through usage that this one is also making the sound. I am waiting to see if a firmware update reduces the noise since it seems pervasive across the devices.

My first device had a faulty touchscreen and I waited almost two weeks for replacement to arrive from Germany.  I have now noticed the replacement has this irritating buzzing sound.  Working from home so another two week delay is the last thing I need.  The Dell would have been the better call based on my experience.

    Model is 13.5" i5 128G

Looks like at the moment nobody knows a fix. I’ve tried basically everything :(

From this thread it looks like a hardware issue thats spread across models, and isnt even fixed with replacements.

Not a good look for Microsoft here....wish I got an XPS 13

As of yet no, nothing. I’ve tried everything, including update the intel drivers that have just become avaliable.

I’ve tried to get a replacement for my surface laptop 3 as its still in warrenty. But if you go throught the motions with microsoft you get lost in many phone calls etc. And everytime I get transfered I have to re-explain the issue as the people on the phone always think its “fan noise”, regardless of how much detail I’ve gotten into at the previos step....

Sort of wishing i got an XPS 13 at this point....

I have a Surface Pro 3. I had decided to live  with the very loud continual buzz until Covid-19. I cannot engage in any video conferencing!!!  No one can hear me over the buzz. Has Microsoft done anything to respond to all these hundreds of complaints?
