New Surface Pro 7 shutting down randomly

I tried that and it didn't work for me.

Even after a complete system wipe and windows reinstall, my Surface would shut down when not having any inputs for about 20 seconds.

This suggestion then worked for me as well. In conjunction with completely removing sleep mode from the Power saving settings.

1. Open Microsoft Store.
2. Search for ‘Intel Graphics Command Center’
3. Install the app from the Microsoft Store.
4. In Command Center, navigate to Settings > System > Power.
5. Look for ‘Panel Self Refresh’ and turn it off for both “On Battery” and “Plugged In”.
6. Reboot your device.

I found out that the random shutdowns would rarely happen in horizontal mode even with no inputs on the screen but very quickly when holding the Surface in vertical orientation. And more often when having a browser open or OneNote.

At the same time as the random shutdowns would start- about 5 Weeks ago, i could not enter sleep mode succesfully anymore. The device would just crash/shutdown when pressing the power button or closing the type cover. I had to resort to set it to go into hibernate mode when pressing the power button instead.

Thanks for the idea. The Intel Graphics Command Center method didn't fix the issue for me. It also happens frequently in horizontal mode.

Interestingly, it shuts down randomly when I'm either on battery or using the power brick. It does not happen when using the Surface Dock (1.0).

did any one try windows 11 to fix this issue? i am just thinking may this would help

Microsoft told me it is a hardware problem. I paid the $460 replacement fee (ouch) and they sent a refurbished one. Not happy about this as by SP7 was only 14 months ago, but I'm over a barrel. I just hope this one doesn't malfunction, too.
