I'm tired of all these issues now. At first, a few days ago, I was working on this laptop and it shut down randomly. I switched it on, but again it shut down randomly. In 20 minutes, this happened thrice. I tried something, and then it worked fine for a day. Then today again, it is happening. The diagnostic kit says there's nothing wrong. Please help.

I am having the same issues. It doesn't matter if its plugged in or not plugged in. It shuts down completely after no activity for 20 seconds. I have all my settings to 5 hours. As long as I am working on it actively it stays on. I've tried all the suggestions on updates and all. It seems to be an issue for a lot of people. Is there a fix that can be suggested? The only thing I have left to do is to wipe it and start fresh. If there is something else I can do, I'd appreciate your help.

Interesting to note after some updates it acted ok for 1 day. Then it started acting up the very next day. I literally timed it. 20 seconds and it completely powers down. Please help. Thank you My email is ******@live.com

Same issue..how can this be fixed permanently. I have a HP laptop and I have never had these kind of issues..

Surface is quite expensive and if it randomly shuts..I also lose the files im working on..I use it for work and this has become an issue.

This is **** dumb. I wiped my drive and reinstalled windows, still same random shut off issue. I don't want to go Apple since an iPad does not support pen + proper x86 environment that I require.

I am having the same exact problem. I tried the USB reset based on Microsoft's advice and it seemed to fix the problem for about a week, but now my Surface is back to randomly shutting down when it's not plugged in and it's left idle for a few minutes.
