sound keeps muting

I was listening to a song on the tablet and then went back to the start page to do something else and all of a sudden I thought my song stopped playing but it hadn't. The sound muted itself.

Then I set up the tablet so I could view my facebook pictures on the tablet. As I was looking at them, I noticed it also showed some videos I uploaded to facebook so I wanted to see what they looked like on the tablet but there was no sound. I thought it was because they were from facebook but I checked the speaker and noticed the sound got muted again.

Why does this happen and is it suppose to happen?

Greetings everyone,

Regarding the issue of having the sound mute randomly, and in TH IT's case, unmute, please get in touch with the Surface Technical Support to exchange the Touch / Type Cover. We're still investigating the issue, however it appears that the cover may be the issue.

You can do the exchange yourself here: http://myservice.surface.com or by contacting our Technical support team here: http://www.microsoft.com/surface/support/contact-us/.

Please let us know if the exchanged Touch Cover / Type Cover resolves the issue for you.

I just got my surface in the mail today and I am loving it so far, but the one big proble so far is that the volume mutes itself, just like others here are reporting.

At first I thought that maybe I had accidentally hit the volume rocker on the side, but I tried that and the volume goes down a click at a time instead of immediately to mute.  Also, I wasn't hitting the mute button on the touch cover.  Seems to be a genuine bug.   I can easily hit the volume rocker to fix it, but it would be nice if this was covered in an update soon

    Hi All,

We are continuing to investigating this issue. Can someone please tell me if the volume is actually muted or if the volume drops to 0? You call tell the difference by going to the desktop and looking at the icons in the bottom right side of the screen. If the speaker icon has a red circle with a slash through it then its muted.

Thanks for your assistance in tracking down this issue.

    Thanks!

    It's muted.

Yes... Its not due to microphone..

After further investigating.. I have noticed this happens only when I am holding the top left of the surface near the volume button and flick a page or scroll using left hand... But I know for a fact that I am not touching the volume button...

But the funny thing is, it doesn't always happen.. I tried reproducing the movement and happens only once in a while... Has anyone seen this?

I was using the keyboard today so my fingers were no wheres near the top left of the screen and the sound went mute.
