Surface Duo fingerprint security option now missing

The fingerprint reader of my Duo suddenly stopped working. I noticed that the fingerprint option in settings\security is not showing up anymore.

Phone has the latest update.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Not willing to try to reset to factory settings given how much time it takes to reconfigure the phone.

    I had this same problem and I think it, for me, it was due to moisture. Let me explain...

    I just got back from a bike ride and I was very sweaty. I got a phone call and after there was sweat around the ear speaker where I was listening on the call. Shortly after that I got the message saying the fingerprint sensor was not available. Shortly after, it was no longer in the settings.

    Fix that worked for me...

    I put the phone in a sealed bag with rice for a few hours and it corrected the issue.

    So, if you bring your phone in the bathroom when you shower, this could be your issue.

    Hello,

    There are a few things that you can try here, first please clean finger print reader with a micro fiber cloth (it may already seem clean to the eye)

    Next please restart the phone and test and if it still does not work go to settings, security, fingerprint and check to see if you have the ability to register a new fingerprint.

    Thanks. The setting reappeared after a few days. I am not sure about this but I think I can correlate a few things about moisture, not a bike ride but running. :) Interesting.

    Thanks, for the suggestion. As I had mentioned the fingerprint setting was gone from the security settings. It reappeared after a few days. See conversation about moisture in the other part of this thread.

    I am having the same problem. Further, the fingerprint settings in the security settings is gone. I am very disturbed that this basic security feature just stopped. I've cleaned the sensor with IPA, I've restarted the Duo several times.

    I guess my questions are:

    1. Why did it stop working?
    2. how do I turn it back on?
