Azure wants 6 digits code but Authenticator generates 8 digits

I'm trying to login into my Azure account but it wants a 6-digit code from Microsoft Authenticator but Authenticator generates a 8-digit code.

I tried to remove my account from Authenticator, remove and create password, turn on and off 2-factor authentication but nothing worked. I still can't login to Azure.

I can login everywhere else like Outlook, Microsoft 365 Copilot but not Azure.

I want to create a support ticket but even for that it wants me to login to Azure but I can't.

What am I going to do?

First of all, please verify you're using the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator from the official app store. The current version should generate 6-digit codes by default for Azure AD authentication. If you're seeing 8-digit codes, this typically indicates one of two scenarios.

U might have configured Authenticator for a different account type (like personal Microsoft account) which uses 8-digit codes. Azure AD requires 6-digit codes.

There could be a temporary synchronization issue between Azure AD and your Authenticator app.

Remove and Re-add Your Work Account in Authenticator, open authenticator > tap your account > Select "Remove account", readd it properly by going to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo (on a device where you're already signed in) selecting "Add method" > "Authenticator app" following the QR code setup process

Alternative Authentication Method, try using SMS or email verification if configured. Use one of your saved recovery codes if you have them. The 8-digit code issue usually resolves after properly reconfiguring Authenticator. Ensure your device time is synchronized automatically. And check for any conditional access policies that might be affecting your login.

@Alex Burlachenko I can't login to aka.ms/mysecurityinfo because it gives me the error below. I've signed up to Azure with my personal email and there was no issue before but now I don't understand why this is happening.

I am unable to log in to my Azure account. Azure asks for a 6-digit Microsoft Authenticator code, but my app generates an 8-digit code.

I can log in to Outlook and other Microsoft services, but not Azure.

Please help me resolve this issue.

My issue is resolved after 11 days posting here. It's a bit slow process but now I can access to Azure again. They had to reset my MFA.

Hello @Anonymous , I have the same issue, If i try to login using the web i cannot provide the code (6vs8), so I did uninstall the azure android app and restored the backup, same issue. I have error logs. Can you DM me plase?

hi i have the same issue authenticator has 8 digits and request login 6 but it was working to get 2 digits codes until this day ı can log on with passport but cant pass authenticator. ı guess some policy updated on authenticator

now lost all connections on business accounts. thats so silly..
