I have a new windows 11 computer but i can't see the windows 10 computer on the network. The windows 10 computer on the network can see my windows 11 computer.

The replies thus far have missed the point of the OP. This isn't about mapping drives or permissions. It is about visible devices on a common network... as in NET VIEW. Not trying to actually access those devices (though that is probably the end goal). I too have this problem. My WIN10 box sees the WIN11 box via discovery. The WIN11 box, however does not see the WIN10 box. They are on the same network, both have discovery enabled, both can ping the other's IP address. Why can't the WIN11 box see the WIN10 box that is obviously on the same local network? THAT is what the OP is asking. Suggestions??

Why is this so hard?

1. 2 computers on the same network segment. one win 10 computer and one Win 11 computer
2. All the sharing and permissions switches are correct on both computers
3. Computer 1 can ping computer 2 and computer 2 can ping computer 1

YET:

When you go to MAP NETWORK DRIVE the computers don't show up in the list of MS computers on the network.

If you use the ip address like \server\c\users\username you cannot connect.

WHY WHY WHY?

I've been using MS products since DOS It should just not be this hard!!!!!

Hello Grier.

From the error message you supplied in another post it's possible you are trying to map the administrative share of the C drive. To do that you need to do two things.

1. Make sure that you are enabling file and print sharing: there are several ways to do that, I leave it up to you.
2. Without having to manually enable a C drive share you can go to \machinename\c$.

With AI you would think you could find answers. Try rebooting your router. Worked wonders for my system.

Some other things I did: I upgraded an old pc and used the same name, probably not a good idea so I changed the name. Also I used my email for my microsoft account with my microsoft password and it took care of all my permission problems etc.

My feelings exactly. I said to myself "you can't map a drive till the Win11 PC sees the Win10 box!" I actually have this same problem, and it's not always a problem. Sometimes I can see Win 10 from Win11 (without me doing a thing) and sometimes I cannot. I've worked in IT in many areas since 1980. Over all those years I've determined with a plethora of items involved in networking: different PC versions along with how network tasks are handled between the different versions, NIC issues (needs software updates or reverted back), switches, ISP, firewalls like McAfee and others, change in routers, switches on the Internet, updates to OSes, I could go on and on with where the problems start. We can reset switches, clear caches, check sharing/security, reset RJ45 cables, etc and THEN all of a sudden one day it's working. Perhaps from an update(s)? It's a conflict that hasn't been identified/resolved if the problem is intermittent or a new problem arises. It'll work and then not work and with nothing a user has done. In my days answers came from books and colleagues over the phone, but now it's all on the Internet. So many times I have seen so many bad answers and bad guesses. It's always been issues with software hardware and when engineering team find it and fix it there will be more to come, and with the ever-changing hardware, protocols, speeds changing there will always be issues internet router issues, etc Now it'll be PCs with AI. Most of us upgraded our PCs to incorporate TPM to be compatible with Win11 then we will like have to upgrade those for AI new problems are born again. It's like the Moore's Law says: it's the principal that the speed and capability of computers can be expected to change/double every two years. Paraphrase of Gorden E. Moore - Intel. So we keep looking/researching to educated ourselves without beating ourselves up.
