I have a new windows 11 computer but i can't see the windows 10 computer on the network. The windows 10 computer on the network can see my windows 11 computer.

If a computer doesn't show up under the network drop down in file Explorer, try to map a network drive following these instructions.

In File Explorer, right click on This PC, Map Network Drive

Manually type in the computer name beginning with \

Check box to logon with different credentials then select browse button

When prompted to log in, try a different user account or administrator login to see if permissions is the issue.

On the computer you want to access, see if password protected sharing is turned on under All Networks in advanced network sharing. If so, permissions might need to be updated for the folder you want to access.

To check sharing permissions, on the computer you can't access, right click on This PC in File Explorer, Manage, Shared Folders, Shares. There you can add groups and check individual access.

I would like to add my thanks to all those that have provided the help to resolve this issue. I replaced a Win 10 laptop with a Win 11 laptop and could not connect to my Win 10 Desktop. The Win 10 laptop & Win 10 Desktop could connect to each other without any issues. I followed all the advise/suggestions presented in this forum and got to the point where the Desktop could see and connect to the Win 11 laptop. The Win 11 laptop could ping by ip address or by name but could not find the Desktop when trying to map a drive.

The last suggestion involving the "set" command via the Powershell worked for me.

This may seem crazy but I just purchased a new Computer with Window 11. I can 2 other Windows 10 machines but not my old main computer. So I right clicked on the network icon by the clock on the taskbar. Open Network and Settings. Go to the bottom and reset the network. Reboot and turn on Network Discovery. That seemed to work for me.

I can now see all my drives on on my old Win10 box from my new Win11 box. I have 6 drives in the Win10 box (don't ask why, long story). I am still getting "Windows cannot access \xxxxxx\x, You do not have permission blah blah blah" on c, d, and e drives, but at least I can now see them. Before it would not even let me in the computer. This is a GREAT start. Now to investigate why I can not access those 3 drives. I think all the permissions are the same but time to double check.
