I have a new windows 11 computer but i can't see the windows 10 computer on the network. The windows 10 computer on the network can see my windows 11 computer.

Seriously, that we have to dive this deep to get this funct5ionality is mindboggling. I cannot fathom MS has not provided a simple tool to help from upgradiung from an old WIN 10 machine to a new WIN 11 machine on the same netwerk.

This video showed a setting I had not previously changed (though everything else was as shown already) however windows 11 still can't open folders on my networked windows 10 laptop.
It can see it the other computer listed OK and I can also access a portable drive attached to router USB.

What's really annoying is that the windows 10 laptop and a windows 10 desktop can access shared folders the new windows 11 laptop just fine. But try the other way ad Windows11 implies I can't spell the computer name - that it clearly shows is visible on the network.
It's also annoying it invites you to diagnose the problem only to immediately announce it can't find a problem.

It really shouldn't be necessary to fiddle about with obscure hidden settings at all, though it has sometimes been a bit confusing it has always previously been relatively easy to just click the appropriate settings in network and sharing and your shared folders and files are just there.

I remember buying a PC with Windows 10 home thinking it was Windows Pro. Remember Windows is registered with your computer's bios chip so if you get a "pirated" version, if you ever have to do a clean install you will have added steps to re-install, real PITA.

I only bought a new laptop as the price was too hard to give up....$850 Canadian for an Lenovo E16 Gen 2 with 16gb ram....1 TB SSD and Windows 11 Pro. More importantly Windows 10 is coming to end of life, Had my windows 10 laptop for 7 years and never a problem but concerned for security updates etc. But the price for a new one was too good to give up. So much for the environment!!!

That being said, if you keep your laptop 7 years think of it as only spending $15 for the upgrade....I also assume when Windows 12 comes you will qualify for a free upgrade. If you're running an older laptop with Windows 11 home maybe wait.....windows 12 may not run on your current configuration. The laws need to change....I see no reason why a computer meets my needs has to be thrown out because software companies no longer provide security updates.

I can't totally agree with you regarding the MS login being more secure. MS will say it's better for integration with their stuff and enhanced security. They do provide security. but whether it's better than what a user can do with adding VPN (encryption), anti-virus and malware support would do just as fine perhaps equal or better. I am not sure if MS enhanced security provides VPN - it may, not sure. I have always used local login names/passwords and I still had this problem. However, the strange anomaly in my home network is one day all of a sudden (within the last 3 days) I can see my Win10 PCs from my Win11 PC. What changed?!?! I turned on my Win7 box. Then all of a sudden I began seeing my Win10 PC from my Win11 PC. I haven't tested to see what happens if I turn the Win7 box back off if I continue to see my Win10 box from my Win11 box or not. Perhaps my Win7 box is causing my anomaly - not sure at this point. I originally started my home network group from my Win7 box and maybe something in the networking components of my Win7 box sends messages along the network for all Windows systems (above Windows 7) to see each other, or some service is turned on or off that makes them all talk. This is a bit fuzzy to me because it's almost out in left field. I will test this as soon as I can and get back.
