Windows 11 update 24H2 changes network access

I have two pc's that are almost identical hardware, with W11 Home, but one has not yet updated to 24H2 while the other has.

The apps links shown on the bottom of this image are not present on the 24H2 version, which is a retrograde step as finding the settings app should be easy..

Annoyingly the 24H2 update seems to have broken the network sharing, and finding advanced sharing settings to enable file transfer isnt easy.

Its been working until this morning, but now I'm unable even to see other devices from the "un-updated" machine.

    YES it is in there somewhere. It starts and says running BUT after awhile although still running you no longer see your own PC. Stop and restart it and BAM all is good until it goes to sleep again. Also the Firewall SMB settings need to be tweaked for File and Printer Sharing.

    In my machines I never go to sleep, so I don't see that specific case.

    Restarting FDResPub has been a workaround for the last couple of years.

    I already changed the Firewall settings as I showed earlier.

    I'd like to know what trigger they use to start the service manually. It doesn't seem to work at all. Same on Canary Build 27729. 😵‍💫😎🤷‍♂️

    I meant that it FDResPub "appears:" to go to sleep. I briefly joined Insiders to try anything. So I am on 26120.2130 and have disconnected from Insiders. Everything else seeems to work fine but not going to take anymore chances. I can live with this little glitch for now...sort of. My other Windows 10 computers see me and each other just fine. Of course had to tweak the File and Printer Sharing option in Firewall on this Windows 11 box.

    FDResPub does not go to sleep, because you can still see the PC from all the other machines on the network. If it was going to sleep, you would not see the PC from any machine.

    It just does not work for the local PC the same way.

    They may have a timer for remembering the local PC.

    The table gets refreshed only when FDResPub is restarted. Then it disappears again after a while if you don't use it.

    Yes that is what I am trying to say. It does not do this on Windows 10.

    I had the same issue with windows 10, when I first reported the problem. That was over 2 years ago. 😂😂🤷‍♂️

    Anyway, to fix half of the issue, I just changed this from manual to Automatic, at least it will make the PC visible to the other PCs on the network right after windows comes up.

    Looks like the Manual (Trigger Start) is not working at all with latest Builds.
