Issues with Remote Desktop on Windows 11 after Update 22H2

All of our Remote Desktop Users using Windows 11 are having problems connecting to Remote Desktop after installing this update. It just hangs at connecting.

We have found that there is a bug in the Remote Desktop client so that it is only trying the UDP connection and not trying TCP connection. We only allow the port 443 connection through on our firewall.

The only workaround we have found is to make the following change on the Windows 11 computer.

Have to set this value to 1 in the registry for Windows 11 client to work outside the network

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Terminal Services\Client

KEY VALUE - fClientDisableUDP SET TO 1

Otherwise the Remote client just keeps trying to connect via UDP.

This issue did not start until the Windows 11 update was installed over the last couple days.

I have the same issue - I presume after the latest updates - with Remote Desktop connection when trying to connect through VPN from Win11 version 22H2 to Win10. It worked ok until around two weeks ago. Now it freezes after the connection.

I've tried to overcome this using Remote Desktop App, but it also disconnects and gives message "Connection was interrupted". Disabling UDP didn't fix the issue.

I still can successfully connect to the same PC through VPN with Remote Desktop from other machines with Win10 and even Win7 OS.

I am also connecting through VPN. The problem occurs since Win11 22h2. I made some test and when I use the Wifi Guest connection from my Eero mesh, I can successfully connect to the same PC through VPN. When I am on Ethernet or the normal wifi, it doesn't work. Maybe you should try this.

Connection from a Win 10 PC work without any issue (ethernet or normal wifi).

I still have the same issue. Was able to fix it by updating the PC I'm connecting from to a developer version of Windows 11. Not ideal for daily use though.

    Hi David.

We and our customers have applied the latest updates to Windows 11 every time we have had the problem. It works for us.
